The Importance of Choosing an Attorney with Experience

There are few professions with as much a glut of inexperienced fresh recruits as there is with law. Every year more than 40,000 students graduate from law school and enter the already overflowing market, and more often they are finding there just isn’t the demand for their services. With so many inexperienced lawyers, a premium is paid for attorneys with a lifetime career to back them up. One such legal veteran is the Mission Viejo lawyer Stephen Zwick.
Zwick, an attorney with the Stephen Zwick Law Offices, is a big believer in the benefit of experience when looking for an attorney.
“A lot of times when someone chooses a lawyer, they’re choosing someone who tries to avoid trial at all costs and just go for the settlement,” Zwick says.
According to Zwick, this is because most lawyers aren’t as comfortable in a trial as they are negotiating for a settlement, but the mere fact that they avoid trial alone makes it more likely they will receive a lower settlement then someone prepared to take a case all the way.
“If you have the capacity of going to trial, the other party will know that and even if you don’t go to trial, your chance of getting a better settlement is much better,” Zwick says.
A quick glance at the litigious history of a Mission Viejo lawyer like Zwick shows that he has displayed no aversion to going to trial, even having gone so far as to submit several cases to the United States Supreme Court. Though he has yet to get a case accepted in front of the Supreme Court, Zwick says that other lawyers know of his aggressiveness and respect him for it. “So my prior experience gives more value to the client and so the chance of getting a higher settlement is far higher, plus if they want to go to trial we won’t shy away from doing the work and go to trial.”
Zwick says that another benefit to going with a Mission Viejo lawyer such as him is that through decades of experience, he has built up a robust network of professionals and experts who he can trust when trying to get a client medical help. “My job is more than just making more money for my client,” says Zwick, “it’s also for making the client better because you can be stuck with that body the rest of your life, so I get them the right professional medical care by sending them to qualified, knowledgeable people who are considered to be high professional health care providers.”
The danger in not going to a qualified doctor, Zwick says, is that there are plenty of doctors who claim to be practicing ethically, but really work in the interest of medical insurance companies or defendants. Zwick says that these doctors will do whatever they can to discredit a claim, even at the expense of someone’s health. “I know people who will say you’re fine no matter how bad you are. These people are not respected professionals, they try to make as much money as possible by discrediting injured peoples’ claims.”
Ultimately, Zwick says, the accumulated knowledge one receives from years of experience is not something that can be taught in law schools – it’s something that one must earn in the field. So if you are looking for a Mission Viejo lawyer, consider choosing Stephen Zwick to represent you and feel safe knowing that your case rests in experienced hands.
